Women’s Legal Service Queensland (WLSQ) provides high quality legal and social support services to women, specialising in the areas of family law, domestic violence, child safety matters, financial abuse legal protection and sexual assault though our counselling notes protect program.  The Service is committed to the creation of a society in which every woman:

This role is responsible for undertaking direct client services to WLSQ clients and providing assistance to the WLSQ Financial Abuse Prevention Unit (“FAPU”). The Financial Capability Worker will work closely with the Financial Counsellor and FAPU team to provide high quality information and practical assistance to clients to resolve or alleviate financial stress and improve the ongoing financial capability of women who are victims of domestic violence.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the FAPU team to provide high quality financial counselling support and case work to clients, including:-
    • Assist with managing client relationship and handling client enquiries.
    • Provide Support to the Financial Counsellor including liaising with clients, gathering information and relevant documents, drafting documents and completing forms.
    • Assist with drafting client budgets.
    • Assist women to access a range of entitlements and resources to improve their ability to manage their financial affairs.
    • Assist clients to build financial resilience, improve their financial standing and empowering clients to develop strategies to achieve financial independence.
    • Assist clients to safeguard themselves from financial abuse and if necessary, improve their relationship with money.
  2. Identify, engage, consult, and collaborate with local key community networks and in the surrounding region.
  3. Maintain accurate and detailed client records and documentation.
  4. Foster professional and respectful relationships with staff, service providers and stakeholders.
  5. Contribute to a collaborative team culture for staff and volunteers which is professional, productive, supportive and consistent with the WLSQ values and feminist principles.
  6. Assist the FAPU team to develop and provide community legal education to the broader community about financial counselling and in particular financial hardship, financial abuse and domestic and family violence.
  7. Any other tasks as requested by the Financial Counsellor or Practice Director.

Skills and Capabilities:

  1. Demonstrated experience in performing administrative and support tasks is required. Experience providing financial capability services or support to vulnerable clients is desirable.
  2. Well-developed and effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  3. High level organisational skills and attention to detail.
  4. Ability to work under pressure, to set work priorities and to meet competing and tight deadlines.
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to liaise and negotiate with government and non-government organisations, institutions and community groups.
  6. High level of knowledge of referrals that are appropriate for women who have experienced domestic violence and financial abuse.
  7. Well-developed relationship management and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to engage with a range of audiences and stakeholders internal and external to WLSQ with the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  8. Sound knowledge and understanding of legal and social issues affecting women, particularly the gendered nature of domestic violence.
  9. Demonstrated a commitment to working for a community organisation within a feminist framework in a manner consistent with the mission, purpose and values of WLSQ.
  10. It is a genuine occupational requirement for this position that the incumbent be a woman (section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).

REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS

  • An attractive remuneration package from $82,043 to $88,287 plus super;

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
