ORGANISATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Women’s Health and Equality Queensland Ltd (WHEQ) is a not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to advance the wellbeing of all women in Queensland. We have a women’s centre in Stones Corner which provides a counselling service for women affected by gender-based violence.

WHEQ service delivery is guided by a strategic and operational plan. We work with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders. We acknowledge that not everyone who may seek our services may identify as female. We are a pro-choice organisation that applies an intersectional feminist lens to our work.

ABOUT THE JOB

This position provides specialist care planning services to support the safety, health and wellbeing of women who have experienced domestic, family, sexual and other forms of gendered violence (DFSV) across their life span. This role supports participants with brief solution focused counselling, case management and advocacy. This support may be provided face-to-face, via telephone or using virtual interfaces.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - You will be accountable for:

Working independently and in collaboration with other staff to:

  • Manage the intake and assessment for participants seeking recovery counselling and case management services.
  • Manage the wait list and support participants on the waitlist with case-management.
  • Undertake intake and referrals for therapeutic and educational groups.
  • Provide person-centred trauma informed case management services to WHEQ participants, through face-to-face, telephone and web-based delivery modalities.
  • Provide warm referral options to WHEQ participants if another organisation can better meet the participant’s needs.
  • Develop, plan, and contribute to the delivery of groups.
  • Assess participants’ health needs to ensure appropriate support is provided to participants.
  • Ensure currency of knowledge regarding best-practice principles.
  • Adherence to best-practice assessment, case management and health promotion and education frameworks.
  • Identify and foster beneficial relationships with others to enhance, deliver and extend the services WHEQ offer.
  • Contribute to the planning, implementation, and revision for continuous quality improvement of service delivery
  • Prepare accurate and timely information for external reporting purposes.
  • Escalate identified issues and clinical risks through formal organisational channels.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Computer literacy with the ability to use Microsoft office and client record systems.
  • Good communication skills, including strong listening skills.
  • Experience in initiating and managing productive relationships with external stakeholders.

  • Current Blue Card and COVID-19 vaccination

ABOUT YOU

  • A qualification in Counselling, Social work, Psychology.
  • Experience supporting women who have experienced gendered violence.
  • Skills in intake, assessment, case planning and brief solutions focussed counselling.
  • Experience working in partnership with community organisations and local service networks.
  • Understanding of the impacts of colonisation and the issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities
  • Understanding of the gendered nature of domestic, family and sexual violence and the impact on specific cohorts.
  • Knowledge, or ability to acquire knowledge, of legislation relevant to service delivery.
  • An ability and commitment to creating a positive work environment.
