ABOUT THE WASH (Women's Activities and Self Help) house

WASH House is a community-based resource centre for women in the Blacktown LGA operating for over 43 years. Our mission is to reduce the impact of poverty, social disadvantage and violence on the lives of women and girls.

Services provided include information and referrals, case support and case management, skill building and therapeutic groups, advocacy and various community development activities.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Community Engagement Worker is responsible for developing and maintaining positive relationships with community members, stakeholders, and partner organisations. This role promotes community participation and education, identifies local needs and priorities, and supports the delivery of programs and services that enhance community wellbeing. The position involves planning and facilitating engagement activities, providing information and referrals, gathering community feedback, and advocating for inclusive and accessible services. The Community Engagement Worker acts as a key liaison between the WASH House and the community, fostering collaboration, trust, and meaningful participation to achieve positive social outcomes.

With exceptional communication skills and a strong sense of empathy, you connect easily with individuals and groups. Your experience in coordinating and delivering impactful training programs, along with your talent for building relationships and networking within the community, will enable you to inspire and uplift those around you.

Essential CRITERIA

  • Relevant Qualifications in community development, or other related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience of minimum 2 years in community development, community engagement and project management.
  • Demonstrated high level communication and negotiation skills including ability to produce written reports and presentations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in project/program management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing, implementing, reviewing, and evaluating community development programs and initiatives for women of all ages.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain successful partnerships with relevant partners including government and non-government organisations and community-based organisations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a member of a team.
  • Superior computer skills, including the ability to create graphic and text content for the development of quality information and promotional materials fit for a range of purposes.
  • Exceptional planning, organisational and time management skills with proven ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience and confidence using social media, multimedia and audio-visual equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of social policy and issues that face women and girls.
  • Knowledge and/ or experience in Domestic and Family Violence/ healthy relationships.
  • Conceptual skills, with sound analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Current driver’s licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience and existing connections within Blacktown LGA
  • Experience and Knowledge of domestic and family violence
