About the Role

The Community Development Coordinator plays a key role in implementing the Hotham Mission Strategic Plan, by implementing plans, programs and relationships that support the needs of the community.

Reporting to the Hotham Mission Manager and working closely with the Board through the Hotham Mission Manager, the Community Development Coordinator provides coordination and encouragement across the community, with colleagues and congregations to engage with the work of the Mission.

The role supervises a small team comprising the Homework Club Coordinator and the Food Program Coordinator. At a later stage, the role will assume supervision of the Young Women’s Program (two co-leaders).

This role is based in West Melbourne. This is a part time role working 26 hours per week, Monday to Thursday. It is a fixed term role for 6 months with the possibility of extension.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Tertiary degree in any of the following relevant fields: social work, community development, youth work, community psychology, theology, or other relevant tertiary qualification and significant relevant experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Experience working in faith-based or not for profit organisation preferred
  • Knowledge of the Uniting Church in Australia would be an advantage

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a Working with Children Check
  • Have the right to work in Australia
  • Undergo a National Police Check before commencement

About Hotham Mission

Hotham Mission is a small welfare agency with a proud and lengthy history serving the areas of North Melbourne, West Melbourne, Parkville, Flemington, and Kensington. Hotham Mission is the justice, community, and welfare outreach arm of the Congregation of Mark the Evangelist, a congregation of the Uniting Church in Australia. Three other congregations are associated with the work of Hotham Mission, through membership on the Hotham Mission Board. They are St Mary’s Anglican Church in North Melbourne, Travencore Anglican Church and the West Melbourne Baptist Church.

Hotham Mission’s work is currently focused on early intervention, prevention, and community development activities around and with disadvantaged children and youth who are disengaging from education and their families, as well as continuing its historic commitment to asylum seekers. All activities of Hotham Mission are guided by Hotham Mission’s Vision and Mission, Constitution and current Strategic Plan to which the person filling this position will be expected to be fully committed.
