The Salvation Army is one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities, helping thousands of Australians every year find hope in the midst of all kinds of personal hardship. The Salvation Army offers the opportunity to use your professional skills and expertise to make a real difference in the lives of people who need help most.
The Salvation Army Graceville Centre is an umbrella name for two refuges (Byanda & Nunyara) that provide short term crisis accommodation for women with or without children who are escaping Family & Domestic Violence and/or homelessness. This centre also provides some medium term, supported transitional housing (Cornelie Court) and an outreach service. Nunyara can accommodate 6 women without children. Byanda can accommodate 6 women with children. Cornelie Court can accommodate 8 families.
This position takes front and centre in our offering of services related to family and domestic violence, as well as homelessness. This is a casual role. Our position requires compassion and empathy. You will work with women and children, often with complex needs and experiencing for example grief, trauma, substance abuse or mental health issues. Your rapport building and communication capability will gain the trust of your clients as you help guide towards independent living and self sufficiency. You will need to respond in culturally appropriate ways and develop deep understanding of people's needs. The role requires substantial record keeping such as keeping case notes and collaborating closely with your colleagues. We look to you to help clients achieve meaningful and satisfying lives. We assist around 230 women each year.
Your approachable communication style is warm and welcoming to others, putting those experiencing anxiety and challenges at ease. You offer a depth of knowledge around family violence and homelessness. Equally important is your compassion and empathy towards those affected by these areas. Bringing experience to the role is important, as is your degree qualification in social and community services. Satisfaction in seeing the improvements in the lives of your clients will be your job satisfaction.
The Salvation Army is an Equal Opportunity Employer who provides an inclusive work environment and embraces the diverse talent of its people.
The Salvation Army is a child safe organisation that is committed to ensuring the wellbeing of children and young people, and protecting them from harm. All child facing roles will require the successful completion of a Working with Children Check. Applicants for all other roles require a mandatory National Police Check.
We value Integrity, Compassion, Respect, Diversity, and Collaboration.
