What you’ll do

You’ll provide emotional and practical support to men who are affected by family violence or who have allegations of family violence against them who are currently in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) system. The Family Advocacy and Support Service provides non-judgemental, drop-in or short term support to men with the social welfare needs while Legal Aid lawyers assist with legal support.

You'll conduct needs and risk assessments, refer to appropriate services and support clients as they navigate the legal system.

This is a court based, case work service based in Wollongong that will deliver services both through telehealth and in-person at the local FCFCOA.

This is an identified position. Being male is a genuine occupational requirement of this position under s31 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977”.

The details

  • Full time role, 3 year contract to 30/6/25
  • Based at Wollongong with hybrid working options available
  • Approximately $42 per hour + super + salary packaging benefits
  • You will be working exclusively with men in crisis

What you’ll bring

  • Experience working with men impacted by domestic violence
  • Understanding of the intersections between domestic and family violence and the family law system
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments, identify short term needs to ensure client and family safety
  • Ability to effectively engage with clients in distress situations, other service providers, lawyers and court employees
  • Strong professional boundaries and self-care practices; when we are at our best, we give our best
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in advocacy and conflict resolution
  • Ability to work autonomously with limited supervision and as part of a team
