About the organisation

Thirrili is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) and operates from a strengths-based approach delivering on its mission of “supporting our people and communities to stem suicide and trauma.” Since its establishment in early 2017, Thirrili has taken on a national leadership role in the provision of postvention support and assistance to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Our purpose is to contribute to the broader social wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are disadvantaged by:

  • Reducing the high rates of suicide through designing, delivering and operating a critical response system to help affected individuals and their extended families cope with suicides and traumatic incidents in their community.
  • Coordinating and supporting the provision of social support, practical assistance and advocacy support to affected individuals and their extended families.
  • Building the capacity of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and service providers to care for and respond to social disadvantage, including suicides and traumatic incidents in their community
  • Strengthening individual, family and community resilience and social wellbeing, and otherwise assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities who are disadvantaged or otherwise in need of support and relief

About the role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) will lead planning, management and administration of the organisation. The DCEO will work with CEO on Governance (including reporting to funding bodies and financial acquittals), annual reporting, financial operations, physical operations, human resource management operations within funding constraints, and strategic, operational, quality and risk management.

About you

As the DCEO, you will support the CEO in Stakeholder Engagement, outlined in the Communications & Engagement Plan, identify opportunities for enhancement of stakeholder engagement, and prepare and develop tender submissions.

In collaboration with the Executive Coordinator - Service Delivery, and the Finance Coordinator, you will prepare the annual service delivery budget for approval by the CEO and oversee the provision of financial reporting in accordance with policy requirements, the work and activities of the Finance Coordinator and payroll, and related systems.

Also in collaboration with the Policy & Governance Coordinator, you will contribute to the ongoing review and development of policies, practices, and procedures across the span of operations of the organisation, the Annual Reporting processes, and Strategic Planning processes. In collaboration with the Executive Coordinator- Service Delivery, you will lead the development and continuous improvement of the Service Delivery functions, including Case Practice, Service Delivery Models and Program Logic You will also oversee the People & Culture Coordinator role, focusing on end-to-end workforce planning including forecasting needs, job design and evaluation, recruitment, and selection processes, on-boarding new employees and coaching and liaising with relevant line managers.

Essential Criteria

  1. Relevant qualifications, which may include bachelor’s degree, Masters or equivalent.
  2. A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a leadership or executive role.
  3. Demonstrated Strategic Planning and development skills.
  4. Demonstrated expertise in achieving results, building productive working relationships in a service delivery environment.
  5. Demonstrated ability to communicate with influence to a broad range of stakeholders.

Mandatory

  1. Identify as Aboriginal and/or a Torres Strait Islander.
  2. Satisfactory National Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.
  3. Current Driver’s License.
