Senior Practice Advisor, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women and their Children

Our Watch Limited

Our Watch is a national not-for-profit established in 2013 to drive nation-wide change in the structures, norms and practices that lead to violence against women and their children.

Our Watch’s vision is an Australia where women and their children live free from all forms of violence. Our mandate is to stop violence before it happens, and our purpose is to provide national leadership to prevent all forms of violence against women and their children. Our work will always be based on sound research and strong and diverse partnerships.

Our Watch recognises and values diversity amongst its staff and strongly encourages suitably qualified people from all backgrounds, especially people who have a strong understanding of intersectionality either by working with diverse population groups or a lived experience.

Our Watch is committed to increasing employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the organisation. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The position plays a key role in the integration of Changing the picture: a national resource to support the prevention of violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, within Our Watch and more widely within primary prevention practice, policy, evaluation and social marketing and communications.

Working within Our Watch, you will be the project lead for the integration of Changing the picture into Our Watch’s work, in line with the annual Operating Plan and an approved Project Plan and the forthcoming Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan.

Working externally, you will promote understanding of, and build capacity of a range of stakeholders and organisations to implement Changing the picture and to increase quality prevention practice nationally. You will liaise with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, and others with relevant expertise and knowledge, to help ensure this work involves appropriate and effective processes of engagement and participation, and to explore and harness opportunities for integration, partnerships and future work.

ABOUT YOU

You will have expertise relevant to the prevention of violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and their children, as well as project management experience, stakeholder engagement and partnership skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. You will be enthusiastic about social change, committed to social justice and gender equality, and have a strong understanding of the impact of intersecting forms of discrimination and disadvantage faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander designated position, classified under Section 12 Special Measures of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. This employment opportunity is only available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
