Our Watch Limited

About Our Watch

Our Watch is a national leader of primary prevention of violence against women and their children.

Our vision is an Australia where women and their children live free from all forms of violence. Our role is to stop violence before it starts.

Our Watch recognises and values diversity among its staff and strongly encourages suitably qualified people from all backgrounds to apply, especially people who have a strong understanding of intersectionality either by working with diverse population groups or a lived experience.

Our Watch is committed to increasing employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the organisation. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

About the role

Our Watch has been funded by the Commonwealth Department of Social Services (DSS) to support the growth of quality prevention activity across Australia as part of the fourth and final Action Plan of the National Plan to Reduce Violence Against Women and their Children 2010-2022. Our Watch will work with DSS grant recipients over the project period 2020-2022 to strengthen their capability for designing and implementing prevention strategies to eliminate violence against women.

There are two grants streams through which Our Watch will provide capacity building and evaluation support: Men as role models for preventing violence against women and their children and Community-led projects to prevent violence against women and their children. The evaluation component builds grant recipient evaluative capacity and facilitates a developmental evaluation at project and program level.

We are seeking an evaluation practitioner with an interest in gender equality and preventing violence against women who can support a developmental evaluation approach. The role will require capacity to contribute to an evaluation approach that supports ongoing analysis and learning while building DSS grantee evaluation capacity.

Evaluation is central to the organisation’s work and is a key component of our Strategic Plan. Our Watch is committed to prevention practice that is grounded in evidence (local and international), as well as that contributes to the growing pool of knowledge on effective primary prevention approaches. As a result, the Policy and Evaluation Team have several existing and emerging project evaluations.

About you

The position requires the incumbent to have:

  • Demonstrated ability to support a multi-year evaluation that integrates both evaluation capacity strengthening of community organisations and project learning and improvements
  • Demonstrated ability to utilise both qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods
  • A commitment to the primary prevention of violence against women and advancing gender equality
  • Experience in analysing data and translating the findings for policy and practice
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative cross-organisation team

Experience in writing complex evaluation reports for government and translating key findings to inform emerging practice will be highly valuable.
