This is a Special Measures role designated only to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals who are eligible to apply, as per section 12 (1) of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.

  • Full-time permanent role (based on 35 hours per week)

  • Salary: $86k - $97k per annum + Super

About the role

The Children’s and Youth Services Librarian role is responsible for providing targeted library and information services to children and young people, promoting early literacy, supporting and mentoring members of the children’s and youth team, assisting with the collection development of the children and youth collections, providing outreach to local schools, kindergartens, day care centres and other places where our families and young people gather, and providing culturally safe programming for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, including the inclusion of Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung language and storytelling opportunities.

Skills and experience require to perform the role

  • Teamwork, supervisory and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve problems using creativity and originality when required, and to defuse potential conflict.
  • Ability to contribute to and deliver projects and programs, including developing, planning, implementing, and reviewing, within agreed timeframes.
  • Ability to consistently lead, motivate and coach staff and to gain the cooperation and support of team members to achieve team goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience in organising community-based programs and services to targeted groups.
  • Demonstrated experience in information provision and collection management.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience.
  • Eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
  • Demonstrated understanding of Child safety and wellbeing requirements and how this applies in the library setting.
  • A current Working with Children Check.
