Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF) is a non-profit queer community organisation governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. It is staffed by a team of committed arts and community professionals as well as hundreds of volunteers who support our events each year.
MQFF is Australia’s oldest and largest queer film festival attracting tens of thousands of festival-goers annually. The Festival is recognised internationally as one of the most important platforms for Queer cinema in the world and plays a vital role in providing a forum for celebration, advocacy and visibility for queer communities.
Held annually in November, the annual Film Festival features over 140 feature films, shorts, and documentaries – MQFF curates an intersectional showcase of queer narratives along with a range of public programs, discussions, and events for the queer community and our allies to enjoy.
We work in partnership with the State and Local Governments to collaborate and activate the city, tour regionally, and foster community partnerships to ensure participation and access for all members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
We are seeking a qualified volunteer to fill the vacancy of Treasurer which is temporarily being filled by a Board member. We are a governance Board that comprises volunteers from diverse walks of life who are familiar with all aspects of the organisation, aside from our love of queer film.
We take pride in managing our financial systems efficiently through established processes. We have a part time Finance Manager, and use an external auditor.
You will be responsible for; assisting the CEO in developing the annual budget as well as reviewing monthly reports; reviewing end of year financial statements and submitting these to the regulatory authority.
Your time commitment would be for just a few hours a week. You will also be required to attend the monthly Board Meeting which is generally held online. We run efficient meetings with the finances included in the Agenda. Our financial year runs from July - June and you will be required to attend the AGM.
Ideally at a minimum you are a CPA/CA, have fabulous accounting skills and strong experience with assisting budget preparation and review, forecasting and reviewing monthly reports such as the Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss, and cash flow.
If you have prior experience in working in a not for profit environment that would also be great but is not essential. If you have prior experience in the performing arts sector that would be awesome too. You will be joining a cohesive and efficient team with complementary skills so you will be a team player and a good communicator.
The Board members work from home, so the hours are flexible to suit you. We use online platforms for Board and for document management.
All Board members need to be a financial member of the organisation.
