Position Purpose

As the General Manager you will play a pivotal role in bringing MAV’s vision to life. This is more than an operational leadership role, it is an opportunity to shape an organisation that celebrates diversity through creativity and connection.

You will work hand-in-hand with our CEO to strengthen MAV’s foundations, ensuring financial sustainability, strong governance, compliance, and streamlined systems. The role strengthens organisational capability and accountability, deepens partnerships, and ensures meaningful engagement with artists and key stakeholders.

In this role you will:

  • Lead the organisation’s financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow monitoring, financial reporting, and compliance with statutory and contractual obligations.
  • Oversee contracts and financial agreements to ensure accuracy, risk management, and organisational accountability.
  • Support in liaising with government, sector partners, artists, and community groups.
  • Oversee CRM systems and office suppliers, including ICT and administrative accounts.
  • Support the CEO in achieving long-term strategic objectives aligned with MAV’s mission and self-determined values.
  • Support and mentor team members to develop their skills, capabilities, and career pathways.
  • Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and ensure development opportunities are available for all direct reports.

About You

You are an inspiring and grounded leader, someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy, culture, and community. You bring not only operational and financial acumen, but a deep respect for the diverse stories and experiences that shape Victoria’s creative landscape.

You’ll have:

  • Demonstrated experience working in or leading a multicultural organisation, with an understanding of cultural diversity, inclusion and equity.
  • Experience embedding multicultural perspectives in organisational strategy, governance, operations, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proven experience in financial management including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and reporting.
  • Experience in operational systems (CRM) management.
  • Experience successfully overseeing programs and projects, ensuring quality delivery and measurable impact.
  • Strong skills in internal and external communication, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to provide visible, values-driven leadership fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance. Mentor and supporting team members ensuring clear performance expectations, feedback, time management and prioritisation.
