Project Officer / Caseworker

We are seeking parental leave cover for two community service roles currently undertaken by one staff member:

  • Project Officer, StreetCare (3 days per week)
  • Caseworker, HPLS Women’s Service (2 days per week)

Candidates may apply for either role on a part-time basis, or for both roles as a combined full-time position. Please indicate your preference in your application. We may appoint either one full-time candidate or two part-time candidates depending on the skills and experience of applicants.

Project Officer, StreetCare (3 days per week)

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Officer assists in the coordination of the StreetCare and Housing and Mental Health Agreement (HMHA) lived experience committees and supports members to be effective advocates. Additionally, you will:

  • organise meetings, including arranging attendance of members, preparing agendas, meeting papers and minutes
  • maintain regular contact with members, and assisting with referrals to support services
  • attend conferences and public forums and contribute to the knowledge and understanding of homelessness
  • contribute to the JEC’s systemic advocacy through assisting with drafting submissions, reports, articles and media releases

You possess well-developed interpersonal skills, and the capacity to develop relationships and networks to engage and build rapport. You will also have:

  • experience working with people with lived experience of homelessness and facilitating consumer engagement
  • understanding of government, law reform and policy making processes
  • capacity to contribute to submissions, reports and policy papers on issues relevant to StreetCare and HMHA’s work

Caseworker, HPLS Women’s Service (2 days per week)

Part of the Homeless Persons’ Legal Service (HPLS), the HPLS Women’s Service provides women, including trans and gender diverse women, with specialist, holistic support – including both legal and non-legal assistance. It particularly seeks to reach victim-survivors of domestic and family violence who:

  • are at risk of being evicted, homeless, and/or facing other barriers to accessing and maintaining safe and stable housing, and/or  
  • have been policed or charged with criminal offences.  

Reporting to the Managing Solicitor, HPLS Women’s Service, you will support the delivery of a client-centred, trauma-informed service through a combination of client and administrative support, including:

  • supporting clients through referrals, advocacy, outreach clinics and connections to relevant services
  • coordinating client appointments, intake processes and communications with clients and stakeholders
  • providing administrative and file management support to solicitors and pro bono lawyers

The ideal candidate will have well-developed interpersonal and client management skills, including in working with people who have complex needs and challenging presentations. You will also have:

  • 3-5 year’s experience in client casework or social work
  • experience working with women affected by domestic and family violence, homelessness and/or other complex circumstances in a legal, community services or other professional services environment
  • strong administrative skills, including accurate record keeping, data entry and management of confidential information
