About THE ROLE
As a DFSV Practitioner, you will provide safe, high-quality, trauma-informed, gender-responsive, culturally safe case management and holistic support services that prioritise safety, autonomy, dignity, and healing for victim-survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence. This role works in alignment with our values – inclusion, respect, safety and dignity – using a trauma-informed, intersectional feminist framework.
The DFSV Practitioner is responsible for delivering client-centred practice, maintaining professional standards, ensuring legislative compliance, including Child Safe Standards, and contributing to continuous quality improvement across the service.
This is a direct service delivery role focused on working with victim-survivors, grounded in purposeful impact, trauma-informed care, and culturally safe practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver client-led case management including comprehensive risk and needs assessment, safety planning, support planning, service coordination and ongoing review
- Provide trauma-informed, culturally safe support that prioritises safety, autonomy, dignity, healing and recovery
- Conduct evidence-informed risk assessments, identify lethality factors and develop personalised safety plans with clients
- Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, advocacy, practical assistance and accurate information in accessible formats
- Collaborate with police, courts, child protection and government and non-government partners to deliver timely, coordinated responses
- Ensure adherence to Child Safe Standards and mandatory reporting obligations at all times
- Uphold human rights obligations and maintain compliance with all relevant legislation and quality standards
- Promote cultural safety and advocate for systemic change to address barriers facing CALD victim-survivors
- Demonstrates an intersectional feminist lens, strong understanding of the systemic drivers underpinning domestic, family and sexual violence, and proven ability to work effectively across diverse cultural contexts and communities
- Maintain accurate case notes, data entry and reporting in line with organisational and funding body requirements
- Participate in supervision, team meetings, case consultations and ongoing professional learning
What You Will Bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or a related discipline
- Minimum two years’ post-qualification experience working with people affected by DFSV or in a related social services field
- Deep understanding of trauma-informed, victim-survivor-centred, gender-responsive and intersectional practice frameworks
- Demonstrated competence in risk assessment, safety planning and case management in DFSV contexts
- Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 (Qld), Child Protection Act 1999 (Qld) and Human Rights Act 2019 (Qld)
- Knowledge and application of intersectional and multicultural frameworks in practice with CALD women
- Strong documentation, communication and caseload management skills
- Commitment to child safety, professional boundaries, ethical practice and client confidentiality
