The Geelong Region Local Learning and Employment Network (GRLLEN) Inc is an incorporated, not-for-profit body operating under a Board of Directors. The GRLLEN comprises multiple agencies and individuals from the education, training and employment sectors who work together to ensure that young people and other job seekers in the Geelong Region are actively engaged in education, training and employment.

The GRLLEN runs a small but busy office and employees include the Chief Executive Officer supported by an Administration/Communications Officer, and a small team of project staff who work remotely from their home offices and come into the GRLLEN office on regular occasions.

The Chief Executive Officer reports to the Board and leads the GRLLEN team, making collaborative decisions focusing on successful outcomes for the organisation, its employees, clients and community. The position is responsible for achieving two overarching outcomes. The first includes achieving the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in a Department of Education and Training (DET) contract and subsequent contracts arising from the DET contract. The second involves growing the financial stability of the organisation by exploring and engaging in a range of new strategic opportunities and activities that will provide the GRLLEN with a sustainable future.

The position is full time fixed term until 31 December 2021, with a likelihood of extension to December 2023 subject to funding outcomes. Negotiable working hours fall between 8.30am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Experience, Skills & Attributes

  • Professional career experience should include management or leadership responsibility, managing a small team and exposure to a position where similar specialist skills have been required.
  • Strong client service focus with the ability to provide a positive contribution to the community with empathy and understanding.
  • Excellent commercial and financial acumen with the capability to provide strategic insights, assess commercial realities and take appropriate risks.
  • Possess courage and the ability to drive innovation and change, using established entrepreneurial skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate, support and resource employees to effectively carry out tasks and projects.
  • Proven public relations and business development skills.
  • Solid planning and organisational skills to effectively manage and achieve priorities, business objectives, key performance indicators and deadlines.
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills to study, analyse and interpret complex activities and/or information in order to make high level and critical decisions, solve problems, improve practices and develop new approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to confidently initiate and develop collaborative partnerships and relationships, and liaise effectively with a broad range of people.
  • Articulate with high level interpersonal and communication skills and a proven ability to write and prepare a range of documents and reports.
  • Strong team focus with a hands-on, flexible approach to work and an ability to actively listen to others and positively contribute towards a productive team environment.
  • Intermediate level of competency with Microsoft Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • A qualification (Degree level) in education, training, youth/social work, career development, community development, business or related qualification with relevant experience.
  • Current satisfactory Police Check and Working With Children Check.
  • Current Victorian driver’s licence and own vehicle.
