General Manager - Lancefield

Edgar's Mission

Who are we?

Edgar’s Mission is a world-renowned, not-for-profit sanctuary for rescued and formerly farmed animals, working towards a humane and just world for both humans and non-humans. Set on 153 peaceable acres just outside Lancefield, in the heart of Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, the sanctuary provides lifelong care to more than 450 animals, and each year rescues, rehabilitates and, where possible, rehomes hundreds more.

Beyond being a place of refuge, Edgar’s Mission sees sanctuary as a way of living, grounded in compassion, respect and responsibility for all beings. Through advocacy and community engagement, we encourage people to expand their circle of compassion to include the animals who are farmed for food and fibre.

Edgar’s Mission is a registered charity with the ACNC and holds Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status.

The Opportunity

Edgar’s Mission is seeking an on-site, hands-on, values-based General Manager to join the Edgar’s Mission family. Working in partnership with the Board of Directors and the Sanctuary’s Founder/Mentor, your role is integral in translating the Sanctuary’s long-term vision into actionable strategies and operational results.

The General Manager role oversees the day-to-day operations of the organisation, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness and alignment with Edgar’s Mission values, with the wellbeing of the animals at the centre of all strategic and operational decisions.

Who are You?

You are a confident, experienced and pragmatic people leader, with the innate ability to both inspire and drive sustainable results that strongly align with Edgar’s Mission’s vision and mission.

Playing in both the operational and strategic space, you have a proven track record operating at the Senior Manager, GM or Executive level, with a background ideally in the broader ‘for purpose’ sector (experience working with animals, or a demonstrated commitment to compassionate animal care and advocacy, would be highly regarded but is not essential). You bring to the role experience in overseeing business operations, as well as strong capabilities in human resources, finance, and marketing /communications.

You lead from the front. You embody the values of kindness, humility, collaboration and respect. You are not afraid to have difficult conversations that lead towards a more positive workplace culture whilst driving continuous improvement, performance accountability and workplace health and safety.

With exceptional interpersonal skills, you can build rapport and nurture relationships across the organisation, from the Board to the incredibly passionate team members and volunteers. You motivate those with whom you work to create cohesiveness, and you understand the importance of transparent and consistent processes and communications.

Experience in working closely with Boards of Directors most advantageous.

This is an exceptional opportunity for the right person to join an incredible organisation that has been changing the lives of rescued farmed animals for over 20 years.
