The Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) is a non-government, feminist organisation dedicated to eliminating sexual violence against women, children, young people, and men. CRCC provides crisis response, counselling, advocacy, and practical support to victim survivors of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and childhood sexual abuse.

Position Summary
The Education and Training Officer will be responsible for the design, coordination, delivery, and continuous improvement of education and training programs focused on sexual violence prevention, consent, respectful relationships, gender-based violence, and trauma-informed responses. The role will design and deliver training for diverse audiences including schools, universities, workplaces, community organisations, service providers, and the broader community. The role sits within a dedicated team responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-informed and culturally safe education tailored to diverse audiences.
The Education and Training Officer contributes to organisational advocacy and prevention initiatives through stakeholder engagement, communications, resource development, program evaluation, and participation in funded projects and community events. The role requires a high level of initiative, organisation, and relationship-building to strengthen CRCC’s educational reach and community impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, plan, coordinate, and deliver education and training on sexual violence, consent, respectful relationships, gender-based violence, trauma-informed practice, and related topics across schools, universities, workplaces, service providers, and community settings.
- Tailor educational content, resources, and facilitation approaches to meet the needs of diverse audiences and ensure programs are trauma-informed, inclusive, culturally safe, accessible, and aligned with current evidence and best practice.
- Support accreditation processes for professional development and training programs.
- Maintain current knowledge of emerging research, trends, and issues in sexual violence prevention and response and integrate this into program design, training delivery, communications, and educational resources.
- Support evaluation and continuous improvement activities, including participant feedback, data collection, reporting, and review of educational content, resources, and delivery approaches.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, community organisations, schools, universities, workplaces, service providers, and government to strengthen collaboration, advocacy, education, and organisational reach.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to exchange knowledge and co-design or co-deliver education, training, resources, projects, and community initiatives where appropriate.
- Develop and contribute to communications, promotional activities, and educational materials in collaboration with the Director of Communications, Education and Policy across digital, print, media, and community engagement platforms.
- Lead and support the planning, coordination, promotion, delivery, and evaluation of events, forums, and community education activities, including stakeholder liaison, correspondence, resource preparation, on-site support, communications, and follow-up activities.
- Manage education and training enquiries, requests, bookings, reporting requirements, and record-keeping systems to ensure accurate tracking, administration, and evaluation of activities.
- Respond to enquiries and provide timely information, support, referrals, or follow-up as appropriate.
- Assist with the implementation of funded project work plans and organisational priorities, including education, prevention, communication, and community engagement initiatives.
- Contribute to strategic policy and advocacy work through identifying emerging issues, gaps, and evidence-informed opportunities to strengthen organisational responses and prevention efforts.
- Contribute positively to a collaborative, feminist, trauma-informed, and values-driven workplace culture.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential:
- Strong facilitation, presentation, and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage and connect with diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated experience designing accessible and evidence-informed education and/or training, particularly in sensitive or complex areas, such as sexual violence or gender-based violence.
- Strong understanding of inclusion, cultural safety, and intersectional practice, particularly in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTQIA+ communities, people with disability, and diverse lived experiences.
- Strong organisational, administrative, and time-management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities, bookings, reporting, and records.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive stakeholder relationships and work collaboratively across sectors.
- Strong written communication skills and confidence contributing to communication, promotional, and resource development activities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small, supportive team environment.
- Proficiency in digital tools and presentation platforms (e.g., PowerPoint, Canva, Microsoft Office, Zoom, online learning or communication platforms).
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification in education, community development, social sciences, public health, social work, communications, gender studies, psychology, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in an education, training, facilitation, or community engagement role.
- Experience working with people affected by sexual violence, or in gender-based violence prevention, is desirable.
Special Requirements
- Current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration.
- Current driver’s licence required.
- Willingness to undertake occasional after-hours or weekend work, to meet community and stakeholder needs.
