Farmers for Climate Action

About Farmers for Climate Action

Farmers for Climate Action is Australia's leading farmer-led organisation driving practical climate, nature and energy solutions for Australian agriculture. As we enter the next phase of our strategy, we are investing in one of Australia's most ambitious farmer organising efforts—building a connected national movement to position farmers and rural communities at the epicentre of Australia’s climate response and nature restoration.

Position Purpose

FCA represents farmers committed to reducing climate pollution and driving nature solutions. The Community & Engagement Director is a new executive leadership role responsible for building Australia's largest and most influential farmer-led movement to drive climate, nature and energy solutions. Leading FCA's national community organising strategy, the Director will grow and activate our farmer network, strengthen regional organising and build lasting community power—transforming thousands of supporters into an organised movement that shapes public debate, influences policy and accelerates practical farmer-led solutions across Australia.

Australian farmers are already demonstrating leadership on climate, nature and energy. The opportunity now is to organise that momentum into a movement that is visible, trusted and impossible for decision-makers to ignore.

That's where you come in.

You'll lead FCA's national community organising strategy, growing our supporter base, strengthening regional organising and delivering inspiring events that transform community support into a national movement that is visible, trusted and impossible for decision-makers to ignore

In this role you'll:

  • Lead FCA's national community organising strategy.
  • Grow and activate a network of engaged and passionate farmers.
  • Build stronger regional organising networks across Australia.
  • Deliver a national calendar of events that connect and inspire farming communities.
  • Build, lead and develop a high-performing team of regional convenors and volunteers to deliver FCA's national community organising strategy
  • Build communities around practical climate, nature and energy solutions that strengthen farm businesses.
  • Strengthen membership growth, engagement and volunteer participation.
  • Help ensure farmer voices shape Australia's climate, nature and energy policies.

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Experience leading community organising, membership or movement-building initiatives.
  • A track record of growing engaged communities.
  • A passion for rural Australia and farmer-led change
  • Strong people leadership and strategic planning capability.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Experience delivering community engagement or event programs.

Agricultural experience is welcomed and highly regarded, but not essential. We're interested in exceptional organisers who know how to build people-powered movements, inspire collective action and mobilise community engagement to achieve policy outcomes.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Demonstrated experience leading community organising, membership growth or movement-building initiatives.
  • Experience leading high-performing teams and delivering organisational strategy.
  • Clear experience connecting community organising and power to influencing policy outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of community engagement, volunteer mobilisation and relationship management.
  • Proven ability to build partnerships across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Outstanding communication and influencing skills.
  • Experience working with regional or rural communities.
  • Strong project and operational management capability.
  • Commitment to FCA's mission and values.

Desirable:

  • Experience in agriculture, environmental advocacy, community development or member-based organisations.
  • Understanding of Australian agriculture, regional communities or the clean energy transition.
  • Experience delivering large-scale events or community engagement programs.
  • Political advocacy or campaigning experience.
  • Fundraising or partnership development experience.

Why FCA?

This is a rare opportunity to shape one of Australia's most influential farmer-led organisations at a pivotal moment for agriculture. You'll help organise thousands of farmers around practical climate, nature and energy solutions that strengthen farm businesses, rural communities and Australia's future.
