We seek a Board Member (voluntary) and Treasurer (voluntary) with organisational governance expertise and a commitment to making a positive contribution to a community and impact focused organisation.

Canterbury City Community Centre is a dynamic not-for-profit community organisation based in Lakemba and Belmore in Sydney, serving diverse communities in the Canterbury-Bankstown and the Inner West - celebrating 50 years of service in 2022.

We provide Aged Care, Settlement, Community Engagement, Domestic Family and Sexual Violence and Learning and Development programs. We deliver home-care packages as an Approved Aged Care Provider and garden care, social inclusion and wellness services as well as personal care for older people under the Commonwealth Home Support Program.

Commitment Required:

The Board meets in Belmore, on a Tuesday evening, every second month. There are sub-committees convened which Board members participate in. The Board term is for a minimum of one year.  There is a self-assessment, based on the 4Cs Skills Matrix, that board members complete at a later stage in the recruitment process. Financial membership of the organisation is also a requirement. 

General Board Members

As a member of the Board, Directors act in a position of trust and are responsible for the effective governance of the Organisation; working as part of a team to ensure that sufficient care, control and leadership is exercised in the stewardship of the Organisation so that it may effectively meet its obligations and achieve its stated purpose:

  • Directors are elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in November each year and/or by targeted recruitment. Directors serve for one year and may be re-elected for additional terms.
  • The Directors report to the financial members and other stakeholders at the AGM and oversees the employment of the CEO who is responsible for the operations of the Organisation and who exercises an appropriate level of delegated authority.

Treasurer

We are also seeking a Treasurer to provide leadership and oversight of the organisation that has finance, accounting, business management or insurance experience.  The Treasurer works closely with the Board, the CEO and the Organisation’s Finance Officer and is responsible for Leading all forms of planning around budgeting and financial forecasting:

  • Supporting good governance, compliance within a not-for-profit setting
  • Chairing the Finance committee which meets quarterly each year
  • Working with the Board to increase their understanding of financial reports and key financial risks
