Booksnboots Inc. is seeking two Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to join our Board of Directors.

We are a purpose-driven organisation committed to literacy, storytelling, cultural connection and community empowerment. We believe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership is essential to shaping our future direction, strengthening cultural integrity, and ensuring our work remains community-led and socially impactful.

We are looking for strong, values-driven leaders who are passionate about community, education, culture and creating positive change.

About the role

As a Director of Booksnboots Inc., you will work alongside fellow board members to provide strategic leadership, governance and cultural guidance to the organisation.

This includes:

  • Supporting the strategic direction and growth of the organisation
  • Ensuring strong governance and accountability
  • Providing cultural insight and community perspectives
  • Supporting partnerships, advocacy and community engagement
  • Contributing to a safe, inclusive and culturally respectful organisation

These are volunteer governance positions.

Who we are looking for

We welcome expressions of interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from diverse Nations, communities, professional backgrounds and lived experiences.

We are particularly interested in people with experience or interest in:

  • Community leadership
  • Education, literacy or youth engagement
  • Arts, storytelling or publishing
  • Governance or not-for-profit leadership
  • Finance, law or business
  • Social justice, advocacy or community development
  • Fundraising, communications or partnerships

Previous board experience is welcome but not essential. We encourage emerging leaders to apply.

Time commitment

  • Approximately 4–6 board meetings per year
  • Occasional strategic planning sessions or committee involvement
  • Flexible online participation available
