• The Director on the Board of Barmal Bijiril Foundation can be remote, preferably in Melbourne
• The director will participate in at least six Board meetings per annum
• These are volunteer governance positions.

Barmal Bijiril Foundation is a First Nations-led Australian charity dedicated to strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and the philanthropic sector. Founded to promote self-determination, cultural inclusion, and equitable investment, the Foundation works to ensure First Nations voices are represented in funding, governance, and decision-making processes. 

about the role

As a Director of The Barmal Bijiril Foundation, you will work alongside fellow board members to provide strategic leadership, governance and cultural guidance to the organisation.

This includes:

• Supporting the strategic direction and growth of the organisation
• Ensuring strong governance and accountability
• Providing cultural insight and community perspectives
• Supporting partnerships, advocacy and community engagement
• Contributing to a safe, inclusive and culturally respectful organisation

We welcome expressions of interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from diverse Nations, communities, professional backgrounds and lived experiences.

We are particularly interested in people with experience or interest in:

• Community leadership
• Governance or not-for-profit leadership
• Finance, law or business
• Social justice, advocacy or community development
• Fundraising, communications or partnerships

Previous board experience is welcome but not essential. We encourage emerging leaders to apply.
