WHO WE ARE

Established in 1992, the Australasian Sonographers Association (ASA) is the peak body representing sonographers across Australia and New Zealand, with over 8,000 members. As a not-for-profit, we support the profession to deliver better health outcomes through ultrasound by providing professional development, advocacy, and setting standards and policy.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This full-time, 2-year role plays a central part in developing and maintaining ASA’s professional standards, policy positions and resources to support high-quality practice and workforce capability. Working closely with the General Manager – Policy and Advocacy, you’ll contribute to key priorities through stakeholder engagement, standards development, policy analysis and advice.

This is a unique opportunity to shape national standards and policy that directly improve the quality and safety of healthcare delivered through ultrasound.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Lead the development and review of professional standards, guidance and policy to support the evolving needs of the sonography profession.
  • Identify gaps and ensure standards remain contemporary, aligned with regulation and reflective of best practice.
  • Lead the development of submissions, briefings and consultation responses to influence policy and advocacy outcomes.
  • Undertake research and analyse complex regulatory, policy and workforce issues, translating insights into practical advice.
  • Engage with stakeholders to inform and progress key initiatives, and represent ASA in external forums.
  • Collaborate across ASA to deliver integrated policy and standards outcomes, including preparing reports and committee materials.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Extensive experience in professional standards and policy development, including preparing high-quality submissions and guidance.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, practical advice to stakeholders.
  • Proven project management capability, delivering complex initiatives from planning through to evaluation.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with health professionals, regulators and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in health, policy, regulation, education or a related discipline; or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience in policy, standards development, regulation, advocacy or a related field.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience working in a professional association, membership organisation or not-for-profit environment
