Overview of program

The Meridian Youth and Family Therapy Team has developed a well-respected family and adolescent focus to its work over many years.

The team has a strong culture that values innovation, collaboration and leadership with a particular focus on family life stage, context, and the generational impact of trauma.

The program’s key aim is to strengthen relationships and improve family functioning whilst also focusing on the evolving needs of the young person. Many of the families referred to this program have complex issues. To address the complexity of family dynamics a family therapy approach is used in the context of providing wraparound supports.

The Meridian Youth and Family Therapy Team receives several sources of funding to provide services to adolescents and their families including Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, and Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP). 

Role specific

  • Provide specialist therapeutic interventions to families, parents/caregivers and/or young people using systemic, behavioural and trauma based counselling.    
  • Identify and implement support and advice for young person and families using a range of approaches including counselling, coaching, and psychoeducation, and including the provision of the Breaking the Cycle therapeutic parent/carer group work programs.
  • Complete assessments and develop intervention plans in partnership with the whole-of-family and young people (when timely and appropriate), using excellent written and oral communication skills, which address referral behaviours and safety risks and connect and collaborate with services and community supports.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders (internal and external) to continuously improve the implementation of our service delivery model and AV’s commitment to improving the lives of children, young people and their families.
  • Learning and utilising evidence-informed common practice elements..
  • Participate in the ongoing development of and training facilitation of AV’s – BTC model and systemic and trauma based therapies.
  • Conduct primary and secondary consultations and case practice advice, where there is AFVITH 

What you need to know:

  • A salary at SCHADS level 6 which equates to around $102,000 plus super
  • Flexible through the increments up to 6.3 (dependent upon experience)
  • Full time permanent role.
  • Site based at our office in Box Hill with outreach across the eastern region.
