Acres and Acres CO-OP Ltd

food hub coordinator

ABOUT ACRES & ACRES COOP

Acres and Acres is a not for profit community project, which is creating a closed loop food system, supported in Upper Murray and North East Victoria.

We support multiple community owned and privately run farms, through our tool hire / library, nursery, waste management and retail outlet, to create and supply fresh produce for our region.

We have just purchased the local green Grocer business and this will be the centre piece of our food system project.

Sharing knowledge, tools and skills allows people from all walks of life an opportunity to grow their own food business with minimal outlay and supported collaborative sales channels.

ABOUT THE NEW FOOD HUB

We’re building a food hub that will create jobs for young people in our area, and feed our community more nutritious and delicious local food from across our whole region.

Why is this important?

VicHealth research shows that during the COVID-19 pandemic, 1 in 4 people were turning to unhealthy food in order to save money. And continued shocks to our food supply chain have made accessing and enjoying fresh food more difficult for families across Victoria, especially with recent price hikes. The stats show demand for food relief increased significantly, estimated to now affect 1.2 million children and their households across Australia.
