About the role

Do you want to play a key role in Victoria’s one-in-a-generation energy transition? Are you passionate about giving local people a voice in decision making processes that affect them?

We are looking for an engagement professional who can help shape Victoria’s approach to the development of Renewable Energy Zones (REZs).

The Senior Engagement Policy Officer with VicGrid actively supports stakeholder and community engagement to make sure REZs deliver for local communities and for all Victorians. This includes building understanding of the energy transition, obtaining community and industry views to support government decision making, supporting stakeholder engagement by senior executives and public announcements about the REZ work program.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver expert advice on strategic communications and stakeholder engagement to facilitate delivery of Victoria’s six REZs.
  • Initiate, build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders both within government and externally to ensure the successful delivery of work streams.
  • Prepare or support the preparation of strategic and timely collateral, documentation, presentations, advice and reports to synthesise stakeholder input and articulate complex concepts for a range of audiences including the Victorian public, Ministers and departmental executives.
  • Lead, plan and support the delivery of effective stakeholder engagement initiatives to build community understanding of, and social license, for REZs.
  • Support the preparation of responses to correspondence from stakeholders.

About you

You will be an engagement professional who is passionate about making a difference and helping Victoria address climate change by transitioning to renewable energy sources. You will be able to work confidently in a fast-paced environment, working collaboratively within a small team, and closely with a range of partners across the Victorian Government and with external stakeholders.

You will demonstrate high-level stakeholder engagement, collaboration and project management skills. You will have excellent communication & policy analysis skills and a genuine interest in playing a key role in a high priority area, crucial for Victoria’s transition to renewable energy.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. A strong connection to community and experience of engagement with Traditional Owners would be highly valued.
  2. A relevant tertiary qualification.
  3. Previous experience in strategic communication, stakeholder engagement or strategy.
  4. Previous experience working in Government would be valued.
  5. Experience/ knowledge of engaging with the energy sector and its stakeholders would be highly regarded.
