Mortgage Stress Victoria (MSV) is an innovative, integrated specialist community legal centre providing free, life-changing financial counselling, legal and social work services to Victorians experiencing mortgage stress. MSV Financial Counsellors are MARAM trained. We’re looking for a Financial Counsellor to join our team: someone who

- Make mortgages fairer;
- Prevent housing insecurity and homelessness; and
- Prevent mortgage stress.

Our clients are complex, ineligible for other intensive supports and often at risk of homelessness. We’re seeking a skilled financial counsellor with a strong advocacy mindset, sharp analytical and negotiation abilities, and a talent for building partnerships that result in meaningful outcomes and spark policy reform.
ABOUT YOU
- You are an accredited Financial Counsellor and hold a Diploma of Financial Counselling (or equivalent).
- You’re eligible for, or currently hold, membership with Financial Counselling Victoria (FCVic).
- You have prior experience in a financial counselling role or in the financial services industry, with an understanding of complex mortgage, debt, and consumer credit issues including credit reporting.
- Your technical skills include:
- Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, operational understanding of benefits of AI) and client management databases.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse and present financial information using Excel or similar tools.
- You have a demonstrable commitment to advancing economic and social justice, particularly for communities experiencing vulnerability and family violence victim survivors.
- Your practice is empathetic, trauma-informed, inclusive and culturally safe, focusing on effective solutions and empowering clients.
SALARY & BENEFITS
- Salary range between $103,807 and $108,510 per annum excluding superannuation, pro rata for part time. Mortgage Stress Victoria is covered by the SCHADS Award, with salaries set 3% above award rates.
- 12% superannuation.
- Flexible hybrid working arrangements (potential to work 40% from home).
- Five weeks annual leave with 17.5% leave loading.
- Paid Christmas closure in addition to annual leave.
- Salary packaging of up to $15,900 (valued at up to $7200 per annum).
- CBD office on Wurundjeri country with modern facilities including end of trip bike storage and shower suite.
