Council to Homeless Persons is looking for a Senior Policy Officer to work on our Family Violence Project. This project seeks to better understand current barriers to short-term accommodation for women and children experiencing family violence, and collaboratively design and implement better practices within family violence and specialist homelessness service intake points.

The role is for a fixed 12 month term at 0.8 FTE. Remuneration is up to $110,000 (pro rata) dependent on experience, plus salary packaging.

Key responsibilities

As Senior Policy Officer – Family Violence Project, you'll:

• Investigate and develop policy responses to difficulties faced by women and children seeking accommodation options
• Develop innovative and evidence-based policy solutions that contribute to CHP’s aim of ending homelessness in collaboration with consumers and the homelessness sector
• Develop advocacy strategies to facilitate the adoption of these policy solutions
• Undertake research into the policy solutions and service delivery models that are best placed to end homelessness for women and children experiencing family violence and disseminate this knowledge to the specialist homelessness sector.
• This role works closely with member organisations, and consumers of homelessness programs, to develop policy positions, and to develop the coalitions of support necessary to achieve change.

Selection Criteria

Qualifications

• Tertiary or post graduate qualification in Social Policy, Social Research, Social Work, Community Development or related field
• Satisfactory Police Check
• Current Working with Children Check Experience
• Demonstrated experience in a social policy role, with a demonstrated ability to analyse and develop policy, produce high quality submissions, reports and position papers and effectively influence policy debates
• Extensive knowledge of policy relating to human services, including an understanding of the drivers of homelessness, and issues experienced by people who are homeless. Knowledge of the homelessness service system and/or family violence service system desirable.

Capabilities

• High-level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively to a range of diverse audiences
• Ability to interpret, analyse and describe data. Experience in journey mapping desirable.
• Well developed interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
