Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a dedicated Aboriginal Rapid Engagement & Diversion (ARED) Practitioner – Mums & Bubs to join our team.
In this role which integrates Integrated Family Services (IFS) and ARED approaches, you will walk alongside Aboriginal mothers, providing culturally safe, family led, and trauma informed support from pregnancy through early childhood. In this key role, you will:
- Walk alongside mothers and families, providing holistic, family led support
- Promote child safety, wellbeing and strong cultural identity
- Support families to navigate challenges and reduce Child Protection involvement
- Develop safety plans and respond to risks in a trauma informed way
- Connect families with support services as well as and community supports
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to program evaluation
- Engage with clients, participate in case reviews, and continuous improvement.

Key Selection Criteria
Essential:
- Strong understanding of the Best Interests Principles (Child, Youth and Families Act 2005) and Victorian Child Safe Standards
- Knowledge of the Victorian Child Protection system and ability to work collaboratively with DFFH on protective concerns
- Experience supporting families with complex needs, including crisis response and risk assessment.
- Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, ideally within the Ovens Murray region.
- Strong communication and engagement skills, with the ability to build trust with Aboriginal families.
- Understanding of child rearing practices and cultural values within Aboriginal communities.
- Knowledge of The Orange Door and its role in connecting families to services.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, maintaining confidentiality and accurate documentation.
- Competency in using computer systems and maintaining clear records.
- Flexible and responsive approach, with a commitment to ongoing learning and development.
Desirable:
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity (strongly encouraged to apply)
- Experience within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO)
- Diploma in Community Services or a Certificate III/IV in Social Services or a related field.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Current National Police Check
- Current Victorian Working with Children Check
- Current Victorian Driver’s Licence
- Pre-employment Health Declaration
- Other probity checks as may be required from time to time.
