The Community Legal Education Officer will conduct duties as outlined below within the framework of the aims, objectives, policies and procedures of the WLS. This role will particularly promote the WLS objectives of being a well-known and respected source of expertise in family law, domestic violence, financial counselling and sexual assault counselling privilege for other specialist domestic and family violence services, community legal centres, the legal community, public and new client target groups.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Responsibilities:

A. Develop, plan and coordinate the community legal education (CLE) resources and activities including:

  • Develop, review and update CLE materials and resources to support the CLE plan and commitment calendar in collaboration with other staff.
  • Coordinate the effective implementation of the CLE plan with relevant internal and external parties.
  • Participate in CLE strategies, goals and plans and coordinate 6 monthly commitment calendars.
  • Plan, organise and deliver CLE activities, including but limited to information sessions, setting up at the events such as CLCQ Conference, workshops, and presentations, training for community members, solicitors and domestic violence counsellors in consultation with other staff.
  • Ensure that CLE material and content meets legal guidelines, and is in keeping with WLSQ stylistic policies.

B. Facilitate the training including:

  • Co-ordinate the Continuing Legal Education activities;
  • Facilitate delivery of training to volunteers and other staff at the WLS, including other sector stakeholders.

C. Funding and accountability:

  • Ensure that the delivery of the community legal education programs are compliant with funding obligations (including WLS key performance indicators and contractual targets)
  • Oversee and ensure that statistical data in relation to community legal education is collected in accordance with organisational policies and funding obligations;
  • Participate in the preparation of funding submissions for ‘new’ CLE activities or initiatives;

D. Contribute to a collaborative team culture for staff and volunteers, which is professional, productive, supportive and consistent with the WLS values and feminist principles.

E. Travel between our offices at Annerley, Caboolture, Southport, Ipswich, Brisbane CBD and other outreach locations will be required from time to time.

F. Work outside of office hours, including weekends will be required from time to time.

Skills and Capabilities

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop and deliver educational programs to different stakeholders and audiences.
  • Experience and knowledge of intersectoral networking and public profile promotion and engagement.
  • High level of organisational and time management skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic and positive outlook and willingness to accept a range of tasks ranging in level of complexity.
  • High level of computer and literacy skills, including PowerPoint, and graphic design program.
  • Commitment to and ability to work within a feminist framework and to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • It is a genuine occupational requirement for this position that the incumbent be a woman (Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld)).

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

This role requires the incumbent to hold a current Open Queensland Driver’s Licence.

This role requires the incumbent to have a clear police check.
