ABOUT US

WIRES is Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organisation and has been rescuing and caring for sick, injured and orphaned native animals for over 35 years. Our ongoing mission is to actively rehabilitate and preserve Australian wildlife and inspire others to do the same.

WIRES operate a dedicated Wildlife Rescue Office assisting wildlife and the community across Australia 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, providing rescue advice and assistance for over 130,000 animals annually as well as provide full-time mobile Wildlife Emergency Responders operating across Greater Sydney, South-East Queensland and Tasmania.

WIRES has actively been providing significant national support for hundreds of projects to assist with wildlife rescue and rehabilitation across Australia while also working nationally with major partners to support the long-term recovery of wildlife habitat and the long-term preservation of native species in the wild.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Training Supervisor, the role of the Training Assistant (Rescue Courses) is focused on managing the WIRES introductory wildlife rescue courses. The role is focused on answering enquiries, processing course enrolments, offering support to students progressing through the online WIRES learning management system, coordinating training workshops and assisting in the delivery of the workshops.

You will need to be proactive, with exceptional customer service skills, able to work collaboratively and passionate about training people to help wildlife.

This is a 12-month contract with the potential for extension.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing general training enquiries regarding rescue courses
  • Managing enrolments
  • Coordinating the training calendar to ensure workshops are running regularly across all areas to meet demand
  • Coordination of workshops
  • Supporting students through online rescue courses, including ongoing email communications
  • Marking of student assignments
  • Conducting or assisting with the running of workshops and other courses as required
  • Updating training records post course completion and updating training material where required
  • Compiling monthly reports

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment (Desirable)
  • Experience with learning management systems such as Moodle (Desirable)
  • Demonstrated passion for training/education/customer service and a commitment to growing WIRES training presence
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or 1+ years’ experience in wildlife, environment, conservation, education, training, administration or customer service activities
  • Strong MS office skills and experience working with different systems and databases
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confident presenting and public speaking
  • Strong conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Highly organised, reliable, efficient and detail orientated
  • Positive attitude, and ability to work in a team as well as manage a wide range of stakeholders
