Waverley Council is seeking a community-focused Community Development Officer – Older People to support initiatives that improve the wellbeing, participation and inclusion of older people, and other vulnerable groups.
This is a part-time temporary contract position working 3 days per week until 30 June 2027. Additional hours may be required on occasion

About the Role
Reporting to the Manager, Older People & Disability Services, you will play a key role in facilitating the inclusion of older people and other vulnerable groups, and provide professional expertise, strategic advice and operational support in relation to ageing.
Key responsibilities include:
- Promote and facilitate the inclusion of older people, carers and people with a disability in local activities and consultation processes
- Assist in improvement processes for the management, promotion and further development of Council's services for older people, including support for the Seniors Centre
- Maintain a watching brief on local needs, and policy developments at the Federal and State levels, and provide strategic advice to Council including preparing community profiles, briefing papers and submissions
- Provide expert information, referrals and advice relating to older people and co-ordinate joint agency responses for people with complex needs as required
- Support service networks, working groups and forums related to planning initiatives and provision of quality services to older people, including convening the Eastern Sydney Aged and Disability Services Interagency, and participating on the Dept of Health Sector Support Community of Practice
- Develop and deliver the CHSP sector support workplan on time and on budget
About you
- Tertiary qualifications in social work or social science or related field
- Extensive professional experience at a senior level in the aged or disability sectors
- Proven experience in undertaking program/service reviews, research and analysis
- Experience in the maintenance and development of respectful, collaborative working relationships with a range of individuals, organisations and networks to enhance coordination and collaboration internally and externally
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to undertake co-ordination and management of complex individual cases
- Advanced engagement, governance, administration skills to provide effective support to panels, committees and forums
- High level written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and succinct information, such as project reviews, reports, material for Council's web site, consultations, presentations, and submissions.
- Ability to plan and organise work efficiently, keep track of multiple jobs through time, and monitor program budget.
