ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The National Redress Scheme, a critical outcome of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, serves as a vital avenue for seeking justice and healing for survivors of institutional child sexual abuse.

WASH House Redress Support Service is designed to build awareness, and facilitate better access to the National Redress Scheme for survivors. The program delivers free and confidential support services including practical and emotional support throughout the application process. These services include case management, counselling and connecting survivors to other agencies where appropriate.

This role is dedicated to providing psychological services to support survivors as they navigate the application process and make important decisions. The role is instrumental to building the capacity of survivors within the National Redress Scheme Framework and improving access to the scheme.

ABOUT YOU

Are you an experienced and motivated professional with a strong foundation in trauma-informed care and a commitment to social justice? We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic practitioner to join our team in delivering high-quality counselling and therapeutic services.

The successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience in supporting women with complex needs, alongside strong skills in advocacy, referral, and service coordination. The role also requires the ability to build effective networks and facilitate group programs that are responsive to the needs of the community.

Essential CRITERIA

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Psychology, Counselling or Social Work as well as eligibility for membership of relevant professional association.
  • Demonstrated experience of minimum 2 years in trauma informed clinical care.
  • Knowledge of trauma informed techniques and therapeutic approaches.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills including ability to facilitate group work.
  • Commitment to working within a feminist framework and understanding of social policy and issues that face women in Western Sydney.
  • Effective negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior organisational skills demonstrating ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet high service demands.
  • Experience in working with women from diverse cultural backgrounds and ages.
  • Experience and skills in networking with both government and non-government staff and agencies, and the ability to build and foster relationships.
  • Computer skills and demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Current driver’s licence and willingness to use own car.

Desirable

  • Experience in working with sexual trauma survivors
  • Experience in Domestic and Family Violence.
