Waringarri Radio 6WR is a successful, locally owned, not-for-profit organisation that has been in operation for over 35 years. Waringarri Radio is East Kimberley’s number one radio station, known for its support of the culture, tradition, and language of the local region. We broadcast to major towns through to outback communities under 24/7 operation and have secured the continuing loyalty of thousands of listeners.
As a part of the Waringarri Media Aboriginal Corporation, we provide quality radio and media products, the key objectives of our station remain as follows:
- To reinforce indigenous cultural identity.
- To promote trust and friendship among Aboriginal people and the wider Australian community.
- To provide training and employment to Aboriginal people.
KEY DUTIES
- Manage effective day-to-day organisation operations in line with strategies, business plans and policies.
- Report directly to the Board of Directors and conduct regular Director meetings (inc. staffing needs, regulated budgets, resourcing, policy and procedure etc).
- Consult with the Board Chair and represent the organisation to external parties, as an official spokesperson - by fostering and maintaining liaison with State and Federal Government departments.
- Promote, publicise, and seek active support for the organisation
- Recruit and supervise staff and volunteers.
- Research funding sources and establish strategies to approach funders or grants (inc. proposals,administering of fundraising records and applications).
- Manage contractual agreements on behalf of the organisation, with contractors and funding agencies, in accordance with policies and budget.
- Coordinate and implement sponsorship and marketing strategies for the station.
- Oversee and edit output across all platforms - radio, website, and social media channels.
- Observe and manage Occupational Health and Safety in the workplace.
THE PERSON WE SEEK
To be a successful applicant you must be adaptable in nature and possess strong interpersonal skills, as well as operate effectively in culturally diverse environments, specifically within First Nations communities.
Key requirements include:
- Background in radio or broader media industry (including film-making, audio video-digital productions)
- Technical expertise, including hands-on production or on-air a bonus
- Comfortable living in a remote/ tropical location and in diverse settings
- Strong administrative and organisational skills

WHAT WE OFFER
- Gross Annual Salary*: $90,000 - $100,000 (depending on experience). Overall package $125,000 - $135,000 with salary sacrificing extras (depending on experience).
- Annual salary pre additional benefit deductions: $125,000 - $135,000 (depending on experience).
- Superannuation at 12%
* In extenuating circumstances where the employee may have to work additional hours (deemed reasonable) the employee may be able to claim payment or time in lieu.
Additional Benefits
- Package will be adjusted accordingly with increases to the Super Guarantee rate.
- Car provided with reportable fringe benefit value of $6,012.
- Company house provided at market value of $600 per week ($31,200 p/a). Rent to be salary sacrificed - this component will be exempt from income tax. (Alternative accommodation may be sourced, however salary packaging will not be as beneficial).
- Employer to pay Council and water rates, but all other households bills to be covered by employee
- Additional Leave: one additional week of annual leave provided as a company bonus.
