We are seeking an exceptional Chief Executive Officer to lead Waratah into its next phase of impact, sustainability and growth.

Waratah provides free, trauma-informed services to women, families and communities impacted by family and domestic violence (FDV) and sexual abuse/assault across the South West. Our services include counselling for adults and children, court support, advocacy, community education, prevention initiatives and therapeutic group work.

About the Role

Reporting to the Board, the CEO provides strategic, operational and cultural leadership across the organisation. This role is responsible for ensuring Waratah delivers high‑quality, evidence-based services; maintains strong governance and compliance; and fosters a values‑driven, cohesive and high‑performing workforce.

The CEO will champion trauma-informed practice, uphold Waratah’s guiding principles, and represent the organisation as a respected leader in the FDV and sexual assault sectors.

Key Focus Areas

  • Strategic Leadership – Drive implementation of the Strategic Plan, identify emerging needs and lead organisational transformation.
  • Governance & Compliance – Ensure compliance with legislation, funding requirements and ACNC standards; provide high-quality reporting to the Board.
  • Financial Stewardship – Oversee budgeting, sustainability strategies, funding agreements and risk management.
  • Service Delivery & Impact – Maintain high standards of safety, quality and cultural competence; lead continuous improvement and innovation.
  • People, Culture & Safety – Build a psychologically safe, inclusive and values driven workplace; strengthen workforce capability and leadership pipelines.
  • Stakeholder & Sector Engagement – Represent Waratah publicly, build strong partnerships, and advocate for survivors and community needs.

About You

Essential Criteria:

  • Executive leadership experience in community services, social services sector or related sectors
  • Strong governance knowledge, including ACNC standards and compliance, risk and safeguarding
  • Proven financial and commercial acumen
  • Ability to lead positive culture, manage change and develop high performing teams
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including government and funder relationships
  • Strategic thinking capability with a track record of measurable impact
  • Exceptional communication, advocacy and public facing leadership skills
  • Commitment to living in Bunbury or the surrounding area
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/ or significant experience in human services, particularly FDV

Desirable:

  • Deep understanding of family domestic violence (FDV), sexual assault, trauma-informed practice and social policy.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Understanding of contemporary people leadership approaches (e.g., Servant Leadership)
