The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides strategic financial leadership to ensure the long-term stability, resilience, and ethical stewardship of Voices of Influence Australia. Working closely with the CEO, COO, CSO, Founder, and Board, the CFO oversees financial governance, budgeting, risk management, and transparent reporting.

The CFO leads the Finance Business Line, providing oversight of financial governance, systems, and sustainability across the organisation, and supporting delivery teams with financial expertise. This role plays a vital part in embedding responsible financial practice across the organisation, supporting VOI’s mission to empower young people and uphold human rights.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial strategy & long-term planning

  • Lead the development of a financially sustainable organisational strategy aligned with VOI’s mission and growth trajectory.
  • Provide forecasting, modelling, and strategic advice to the CEO, COO, CSO, and Board to guide decision-making.
  • Identify financial risks, opportunities, and funding pathways to support long-term impact.

2. Financial governance & compliance

  • Ensure strong financial governance, transparency, and accountability across all financial processes.
  • Oversee compliance with ACNC requirements, regulatory obligations, and internal policies.
  • Support the development and maintenance of robust financial controls and reporting frameworks.

3. Budgeting & resource management

  • Lead annual budgeting processes in collaboration with the Executive Team and project leads.
  • Monitor expenditure, resource allocation, and financial performance across programs and strategic initiatives.
  • Work with the COO and CSO to integrate ethical, efficient, and sustainable use of organisational resources.

4. Philanthropic partnerships & fundraising support

  • Provide financial oversight of grant applications, philanthropic partnerships, and donor reporting.
  • Support ethical fundraising initiatives, ensuring alignment with organisational values and sustainability principles.

5. Financial reporting & Board engagement

  • Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team to identify financial risks, support cross-functional initiatives, and ensure alignment between financial strategy and organisational priorities.
  • Prepare clear, accessible financial reporting for the Board, Executive Team, and key stakeholders.
  • Advise the Board on financial implications of strategic decisions, organisational risks, and new initiatives.
  • Lead or contribute to impact measurement and financial components of annual reporting.

6. Internal capacity & culture

  • Build financial literacy and capability across the organisation, particularly for young or early-career volunteers.
  • Contribute to a culture of ethical leadership, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Time commitment: Approximately 4–6 hours per week. This function is a key growth area for VOI, and as activity expands, additional support will be introduced to ensure the workload remains manageable and sustainable.

Essential Criteria

  • Based in Australia (NSW, ACT, QLD, TAS, VIC, WA, NT).
  • Under the age of 35 years of age (18-35).

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in financial management, budgeting, financial governance, or accounting.
  • Strong understanding of accountability, transparency, and ethical financial stewardship in a mission-driven or NFP context.
  • Experience implementing financial systems, controls, or reporting frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to make financial information accessible to diverse audiences.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusive leadership, and human-rights-aligned practice.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a youth-led, intersectional leadership team.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Australian charity and ACNC compliance requirements.
  • Experience with grant reporting, philanthropic partnerships, or fundraising governance.
  • Familiarity with financial risk frameworks (e.g., ISO 31000) or impact measurement approaches.
  • Understanding of the Australian NFP and philanthropic ecosystem.
