Advocacy Manager, Law Reform

Violet Co Legal & Consulting

We are looking for an Advocacy Manager (Law Reform) to drive and manage Violet Co Legal & Consulting Law Reform and social justice campaigns.

Over 1 in 5 Australian women experience rape and Sexual assault in their lifetime. 1 in 4 adults have experienced childhood sexual abuse. This is a nation-wide whole of society that is in desperate need of effective action to prevent, intervene, respond and recover from.

We are gearing up for a big 2024 - the opportunity to really make a difference in the lives of women, gender diverse and First Nations people. We are particularly gearing up to make even more impact for victim/survivors of rape and sexual assault.

The Advocacy Manager (Law Reform) will support Karen Iles and the team at Violet Co Legal & Consulting, in collaboration with our clients, victim/survivors and other sector partners, in running a number of campaigns to increase justice outcomes for rape and sexual assault victim/survivors in NSW, and across Austraia.

Our current priority campaign in 2024, Make Police Investigate, is focused on the lived-experiences of victim/survivors attempting to access justice.

Unfortunately, of the very small proportion of victim/survivors who report to Police about their experiences of sexual violence - most do not have their reports investigated or charges laid. This prevents access to justice and ultimately, delays healing. In Australia approximately only 1.5% of men who sexually assault others ever face any kind of criminal penalty. This picture has to change. It starts with better police responses.

More information can be found on the campaign website www.MakePoliceInvestigate.Org

In addition to this campaign, the Violet Co Team are involved in a number of social justice and law reform campaigns on issues regarding sexual assault, gender-based violence, racism and the rights of First Nations people.
