Working closely with the Safety, Quality and Risk Manager, you will help strengthen privacy practices, improve information management systems, and support staff to confidently manage sensitive information in line with legislative requirements and best practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining policy, compliance, systems improvement and practical problem-solving in a purpose-driven organisation.

About Us

The Victoria Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation and the state's only specialist legal and support service dedicated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

For more than 50 years, VALS has delivered culturally safe legal representation, advocacy and community justice programs across Victoria. Our work is grounded in self-determination, human rights and improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

About the Role

  • Deliver engaging privacy awareness training and education to staff.
  • Support responses to privacy incidents and data breaches, including documentation and reporting.
  • Provide expert advice to internal stakeholders on privacy obligations and information management.
  • Assist with compliance reporting, accreditation activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively across Corporate Services, ICT and operational teams to strengthen information governance.

About You

You are a highly organised and detail-oriented professional who enjoys working with legislation, governance and continuous improvement. You are confident interpreting privacy requirements and translating them into practical solutions that support both compliance and operational effectiveness.

You will also bring:

  • Strong understanding of Victorian and Commonwealth privacy legislation.
  • Experience developing policies, procedures or compliance frameworks.
  • Knowledge of records management principles, retention requirements and information governance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify risks and recommend practical improvements.
