VACCHO is the peak representative for the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Victoria.
We have 34 member Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations providing support to over 78,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the state. We lead and support Aboriginal Community Control and the broader health and social services sector to deliver transformative health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal communities in Victoria. We are a centre of expertise, policy advice, training, innovation and leadership in Aboriginal health and wellbeing. And we'd love you to join us!
VACCHO promotes substantive equality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This is a full-time maximum term contract role to 30 June 2028.
This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander designated position, classified under Section 12 Special Measures of the Equal Opportunity Act (2010). This employment opportunity is only available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
As the Senior Project Officer, Advocacy and Campaigns you will be working on a number of campaigns including, Aged Care, ACC-RTO Classification, Prison Health Care (Transforming Care in Custody), Election Campaigns, Budget Advocacy and delivering Community Question Time events.
You will lead and develop campaign plans for advocacy priorities, as well as manage and implement the rollout of those advocacy plans which will involve writing letters to decision makers, determining and drafting materials to support parliament tactics, creating communications packs, advocacy policy documents, petitions, media stunts and more. These activities aim to build coalitions of supporters and influence decision makers to change policies, legislation and funding outcomes. You will also support VACCHO’s Executives to meet with Members of Parliament, media and representative forums. You will support the campaign plans while working within the media strategy, advocacy strategy and government relations strategy alongside working closely with the policy team to develop solutions for change.
Your strong resilience will help you to celebrate the smaller wins along the way as you work on our journey of transformative change. You will be a self-starter, and where you see a problem or the signs of a roadblock ahead, your natural curiosity will see you researching and exploring potential solutions.
Your experience working on a persuasion campaign or in grassroots organising will be good grounding for succeeding in this position as is your understanding of the political landscape and your ability to translate complex issues into clear, persuasive communication.
If you are also inquisitive, structured (can follow processes), solution orientated, can engage and influence others as well as apply your strategic thinking to campaigns, we would love to hear from you.
We believe in the right for all people to be treated with the respect and dignity at all times, and that all people who work for, govern or undertake work at or visit us should at all times feel safe and included.
