about us

VACCHO is the peak representative for the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people in Victoria, and champions Community control, health equality, and equity for Aboriginal Communities. We are a centre of expertise, policy advice, training, innovation, and leadership in Aboriginal health and wellbeing. VACCHO advocates for the health equality and optimum health of all Aboriginal people in Victoria.

The establishment of the Victorian Aboriginal Centre of Excellence in Social and Emotional Wellbeing will be established by VACCHO in partnership with Aboriginal peoples and Communities across Victoria. It will be a Centre for Aboriginal people, managed by Aboriginal people.

The Centre will have three broad aims:

  1. Strengthen individual and Community SEWB through a range of promotion and prevention initiatives.
  2. Expand and enhance SEWB services for Aboriginal people experiencing mental health, substance abuse, or other difficulties that are offered by SEWB teams and mainstream services. This will occur through the development of best practice guidelines, workforce development, and research and evaluation activities.
  3. Address the underlying social, economic, and Cultural drivers of poor SEWB through advocacy, support for local Community development initiatives, and by creating jobs and economic opportunities for Aboriginal people through the Centre and in SEWB teams.

about the role

This position will be responsible for supporting the Strategic Project Manager in driving operational development and change management activities with a particular focus on the Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health Systems final report. The position will coordinate project activity, develop and maintain high quality project documentation, and lead communication and engagement activities with key project stakeholders.

The position will be a main point of contact for VACCHO member organisations and partners throughout the implementation of the Recommendations.

This role involves

  • Coordinating the delivery of project activities including project workshops, internal team meetings, meetings with external partners, and other project related activities
  • Develop and maintain internal project documentation including project briefs, progress reports, communications plans, risk registers, and other project related documents
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of VACCHO project management systems, practices, and processes
  • Act as a main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders with a focus on facilitating the participation of VACCHO member organisations and Aboriginal community members
  • Coordinate the delivery of all community consultation activities including venue, accommodation, scheduling, attendance, accessibility, cultural safety, and other related considerations for effective community consultation
  • Foster positive working relationships and partnerships operationally and strategically with internal and external stakeholders
