Engage, guide, support and provide mentoring to our Students, Trainees, and their employers as part of an RTO that was awarded Community Training Provider of the Year in the 2023 Victorian Training Awards. VACCHO's RTO offers specialised training programs to support the expansion of the Aboriginal Health Workforce and to achieve long-term career successes for the Aboriginal Communities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide the following support services for VACCHOs students:
    • Social and emotional wellbeing support
    • Ongoing stakeholder engagement with employer and students.
  • As part of the Aboriginal Student Mentor team:
    • Provide advice and support to enrolling students including the completion of Pre-Training Requirements and the Learning, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Skills assessments. Participate actively in Student orientation.
    • Assist Students to complete the six monthly feedback forms to assist VACCHO’s ETU to inform continuous quality improvement
    • Attend classes to get to know students and identify and respond to any needs that are arising that will remove barriers to completing each unit and in turn, achieving their chosen Qualification. These classes may be on-site at VACCHO or off-site at Member ACCOs

Knowledge and Experience

  • Develop an understanding of the ASQA and Skills First standards and ensure activities are in compliance with those, as well as operate within the VACCHO Policies and Procedures both generally, and those relating specifically to the Education and Training Unit.
  • Undertake general administrative duties, such as filing and record management, preparing simple correspondence, document production and word-processing, and related duties.
  • Accept lawful instruction given by you in regard to work, training and instruction in the workplace.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience using Microsoft applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project Management) combined with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and commitment to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, and health.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal peoples, Communities, and organisations, in a culturally safe, and appropriate, manner.
  • Demonstrated understanding of LGBTQIASB+ issues and experience with LGBTQIASB+ people via professional engagement, employment or lived experience.
