The Payroll Lead will supervise a geographical dispersed payroll team and manage the payroll processes to ensure that they run smoothly and are completed with a high level of accuracy and all reporting and legislative obligations are met.

This role will be based in either Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne depending on the location of the successful candidate.

This position sits within our Finance portfolio and will report to the Deputy Director of Finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a small team with members situated in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane performing end to end payroll processing currently 9 databases.
  • Perform quality control audits to ensure accuracy
  • Identify areas for process improvement and develop and implement a set of standard operating procedures for the payroll processing function
  • Review current pay runs with the view to synchronisation.
  • Overseeing changes to employee contracts and new employee's contracts and terminations
  • Manage the preparation of all State and Federal tax obligations including PAYG tax, Payroll tax and Superannuation Guarantee contributions
  • Advise team members of updates to employment terms and conditions and policies
  • Preparation of employee costings and financial information, providing analysis and insights on people related costs
  • Review and approve all payroll payments
  • Provide advice and education to employees in relation to pay issues, award changes, new policies etc
  • Resolving payroll enquiries in a professional manner
  • Participating and assisting in the internal and external audit processes as required.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a payroll of 300 employees or more.
  • Understanding of payroll compliance and comprehensive knowledge of Australian state and federal taxation, superannuation and industry legislation
  • Advanced skills with cloud-based payroll platforms. Applicants with solid experience in Sage Micropay products including Meridian payroll, ESS and SAGE People will be highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of general payroll practices, procedures, operations and legislation
  • Team Management experience
  • Analysis skills and the ability to understand costs, trends and provide insights and to identify and solve issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
  • Honesty, integrity and discretion
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of the broader team
  • Highly organised with the ability to work under pressure and within set deadlines
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced computer software skills, Word and Excel.
  • Bachelor Degree in Finance or other appropriate tertiary qualifications would be highly regarded

Remuneration

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which will include:

  • Salary commensurate with demonstrated skills and experience;
  • 16% superannuation
  • 6 weeks annual leave with an additional 25% leave loading
