About the opportunity

Uniting is currently seeking an experienced Intensive Family Preservation Caseworker to join our team in Taree NSW. As an Intensive Family Preservation (IFP) Caseworker, you will play a crucial role in preventing unnecessary entry of children and young people into the statutory child protection system. You will work closely with families facing multiple challenges including child protection, financial instability, housing issues, domestic violence, substance abuse, mental health concerns, and relationship issues. The role involves providing intensive casework and case management services to support families in improving their capacity and functioning.

  • Deliver evidence-based, trauma-informed, culturally competent, and responsive services to families in crisis.
  • Conduct up to three home visits per week and maintain a caseload of five families.
  • Collaborate with families to develop and implement family plans that address their needs and prioritise child safety.
  • Assess risks and strengths within families using approved assessment tools and intervention strategies.
  • Provide planning support and structure for the safety of children and young people, taking immediate action when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate electronic records of service user case files and adhere to organisational policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members and external stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Participate in an on-call roster to support families outside of regular working hours.

Your Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in social science or relevant field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working with families facing complex challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to engage families in crisis and work collaboratively to achieve goals.
  • Understanding of child protection issues and experience conducting risk assessments.
  • Current driver's license and willingness to transport families.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours and participate in on-call duties.
  • Experience in supporting Aboriginal families with culturally sensitive interventions.
  • Familiarity with the NSW Child Protection system.
