Cairns Sexual Assault Service (CSAS)

Join a team creating safety, healing, and hope for people impacted by sexual violence.

Cairns Sexual Assault Service is seeking compassionate, skilled, and trauma-informed Therapists to support adults and young people aged 12 years and over who have experienced sexual assault, sexual abuse, or harmful sexual behaviours. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference within a specialist service committed to recovery, dignity, safety, and community wellbeing.

Working within a highly supportive multidisciplinary environment, you will provide confidential counselling, crisis response, advocacy, psychoeducation, and therapeutic support to clients and their non-offending family members, carers, and support networks. You will contribute to a service grounded in evidence-based practice, cultural safety, and safeguarding principles, while helping strengthen pathways to healing for individuals and communities across Far North Queensland.

About the role

As a Therapist within CSAS, you will deliver trauma-informed therapeutic interventions through face-to-face, telephone, Teams, and outreach-based services. You will work collaboratively with colleagues, external agencies, and community stakeholders to ensure clients receive holistic and responsive support.

This role includes:

• Providing confidential counselling and crisis support to adults and young people aged 12+
• Supporting clients impacted by sexual assault, abuse, and harmful sexual behaviours
• Delivering psychoeducation, safety planning, and advocacy
• Supporting non-offending family members, carers, and support persons
• Preparing case documentation, reports, and court-related documentation where required
• Participating in case reviews, supervision, professional development, and continuous service
  improvement
• Contributing to community education, health promotion, and awareness initiatives
• Working collaboratively within a trauma-informed and culturally responsive framework

About you

You are a compassionate and grounded practitioner who brings empathy, professionalism, and strong therapeutic capability to your work. You understand the impacts of trauma and sexual violence and are committed to delivering safe, respectful, and client-centred support.

You will bring:

• A degree qualification in social work, psychology, counselling, or a related discipline
• Experience delivering evidence-based trauma-informed counselling to adults and/or young people
• Knowledge of the impacts and dynamics of sexual assault and violence
• Understanding of cross-cultural practice and culturally safe service delivery
