about us

The Abortion Project (the Project) is a pro-abortion, pro-choice network of peer support groups for people who have had abortions.

Our mission is to develop a safe and supportive community for those who have had abortions and to advocate for better access to compassionate abortion care in Australia. We believe that everyone should have the right to access safe and affordable abortion care, and that access to compassionate aftercare should be a central aim of the conversation around abortion.

Through our peer support groups and advocacy work, we aim to build solidarity and support for individuals who have had abortions and to promote reproductive justice for all.

We are a not-for-profit organisation that runs completely on a volunteer basis, by people who have had abortions.

about the opportunity:

Responsible for supporting the Project's strategic direction and overall management.

They play a critical role in attending regular meetings, providing valuable input on decision-making processes, and monitoring project progress. Additionally, they may participate in specific project initiatives and collaborate with other members of the management team to ensure project goals are met.

Effective execution of their role is essential for the success of the Abortion Project and its mission, as they contribute to shaping the project's direction and ensuring its continued progress towards its objectives.

Ordinary Members of the Management Committee are subject to Model rules (Associations) 2016.

about you

Skills, Experience & Expertise:

Essential

  • Commitment to reproductive justice and the mission of The Abortion Project
  • Knowledge and understanding of incorporated association governance and its principles. Familiarity with legal and compliance requirements for incorporated associations.
  • Ability to review and interpret financial statements and reports.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation and decision-making processes. Ability to work collaboratively with other committee members and stakeholders to achieve project goals and objectives.
  • An understanding of ethical considerations and responsibilities of serving on a management committee.

Desirable:

  • Lived experience of abortion/s.
  • Finance background, with a working knowledge of non-for-profit law. Working knowledge of Model rules (Associations) 2016
