Job Overview:

Teach Us Consent Global is seeking an Australia-based Communications Manager to drive forward our mission, advocacy and education through public relations, media engagement, campaigns and stakeholder-facing communications for various audiences. While you’ll support the content team, who look after our social and digital media channels, this role is key to strengthening how Teach Us Consent shows up externally - through media, supporter communications, and fundraising campaigns - ensuring we remain front of mind with the public, key stakeholders and future partners. This role is perfect for a media, comms & content all-rounder, who’s comfortable moving from public relations and media strategy to campaign copywriting within a day.

Responsibilities:

• Public Relations & Media: Work collaboratively with the team to produce reactive and proactive media around Teach Us Consent campaigns, events, and emerging issues related to sexual violence, pornography and tech-facilitated abuse. You’ll manage existing media relationships, write media releases, build relationships with journalists across the political spectrum and identify opportunities for earned media.

• Communications: Manage large communications campaigns, bringing them to life across platforms, including a regular giving campaign. Support communications work streams across policy and advocacy, as well as grant specific programs. 
• Content Creation: Support social media and digital content development on topics spanning porn literacy, consent, respectful relationships, tech-facilitated abuse, and emerging trends for young people aged 13-25, educators and parents. This includes a focus on engaging boys and young men. You may be involved in ideation, video production, content development for partners, copywriting, graphic design, scheduling and supporting the broader needs of the content team.
• Newsletter: Managing and supporting our fortnightly educational newsletter (normally based out of the US) including exploring options for sustainability and expansion. Setting up a localised eDM database alongside a strategy that strengthens Teach Us Consent’s touchpoints with and relationships to supporters, leveraging our base at key advocacy moments. 
• Operations: Record and streamline relationships in the CRM and email database.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Engagement with a variety of key stakeholders; from our Youth Advisory Groups, to experts, academics, and our audiences in Australia and globally.
• Moderation: Support the content team as required to reply to comments, manage DMs and moderate interactions with audiences across multiple platforms. Trauma-informed training and support is provided to all staff.

What we are looking for:

Essential

• 2-5 years+ of communications, public relations and/or media experience 
• Established or proven relationships with journalists across a broad range of media outlets
• Ability to thrive in a growing, largely remote Australian NGO
• Demonstrated experience with content across social media, website, video, digital channels
• Ability to deliver tasks under time pressure and within resource constraints
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to juggle competing priorities
• Commitment to social justice and a world free from sexual violence

Highly desirable

• University qualification in communications, management, policy, or relevant study
• Demonstrated work experience in the domestic NGO or public sector
• Experience in the prevention of gender-based violence / sexual violence, youth, education, or associated campaign and policy spheres relevant to our work
• Experience working with diverse priority population groups including LGBTQIA+, CALD, rural and remote, young people with disability, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary:

• $80,000 - $90,000 AUD gross salary depending on alignment with essential and desirable criteria

Organisation: Teach Us Consent Global Limited, registered in Australia with the ACNC as a Harm Prevention Charity.

Term: July / August on a 12-month fixed term full-time contract with the possibility of an extension.

Location: Australia. Remote role, with the option for an office space and a preference for those who can travel to work in Sydney or Melbourne.

Reports to: Head of Content & Brand.

Work Authorisation: Must be legally allowed to work in Australia.

Our mission is to eradicate normalised sexual violence and create a world where healthy intimacy is the norm.

Founded in 2021 by Chanel Contos as a campaign for the Australian Government to mandate earlier and holistic consent education in Australian schools, the organisation is now focused on eradicating rape culture by centring consent, empathy, and respect at the heart of sex education.

Incidents of peer-on-peer normalized sexual violence are experienced at scale globally, but we believe through education we can drive the cultural shift needed to bring change in this space.
