Full-time position (1.0 FTE) or short-term Locum full-time or part-time position (0.4-1FTE), SCHADS 6-7, $96,969 to $109,253pa (salary dependant on experience) + super + salary packaging + additional paid Christmas leave

What our new Locum Family Law Solicitor looks like

The Family Violence Unit Family Law Solicitor position is accountable to the Principal Solicitor for compliance with the Community Legal Centres Australia (CLCA) Professional Indemnity Insurance Guidelines and for day-to-day professional supervision.

Legal services will include information, referral, advice, advocacy, casework, representation, community legal education, and law and policy reform.

Areas of law will include services primarily in family law and other legal matters within SCALES’ areas of practice (as per the Legal Practice Guidelines).

Key Responsibilities

  • All aspects of legal service delivery including representation, casework, and advice
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Supervision of staff including junior solicitors, advocates, and volunteers
  • Develop and implement community legal education programs relevant to women experiencing family violence

Work requirements of this position

  • Holds, or is eligible to hold, a current practising certificate in WA
  • Demonstrated experience in providing high-quality legal advice and casework services in the area of family law (parenting and financial)
  • A strong commitment to social justice principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience working with women experiencing family violence
  • The capacity to work effectively, independently, and collaboratively
  • Well-developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed legal research skills
  • Sound computer skills and ability to prepare reports, court documents, and letters
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal women and women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Ideally you will also possess the following personal attributes too

  • High ethical standards and values, and the ability to act with integrity and confidentiality
  • Team player able to engage people, problem solve, take initiative and achieve results
  • Exhibits cultural competency and understanding of trauma-informed practices
  • Energy, enthusiasm and resilience (as you will be dealing with sensitive and confronting material)
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong leadership skills
