About SYN

SYN Media is a not-for-profit, youth-run media organisation based in Melbourne. We empower young people aged 12–25 to be creators — not just consumers — of media. Through radio, podcasts, and digital platforms, SYN provides hands-on training and broadcast opportunities for hundreds of young volunteers each year. We broadcast 24/7 on 90.7FM, DAB+, and online, while delivering education programs and media workshops across Victoria.

The Opportunity

SYN is seeking to co-opt a new Board Member with strong financial literacy and experience in accounting, financial management, or governance. This voluntary role will help guide SYN’s strategic direction, ensure financial sustainability, and support the next generation of young media makers.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide financial oversight and advice to the SYN Board.
• Contribute to budget planning, risk management, and compliance.
• Support strategic decision-making with a focus on long-term sustainability.
• Champion SYN’s mission and values within your professional networks.

Who We’re Looking For

• A qualified or experienced finance professional (e.g., accountant, auditor, CFO, financial controller, or business manager).
• Strong understanding of not-for-profit or community sector governance (preferred).
• Commitment to youth empowerment, diversity, and community media.
• An appreciation for community media, contemporary music, or youth education is a welcome bonus, but not essential.
