St Mary’s House of Welcome is a Specialist Access Point supporting people experiencing homelessness in the heart of Melbourne. Guided by Catholic Social Teaching and strong values of dignity, welcome and justice, we provide practical support, connection and hope to people experiencing disadvantage.

We are seeking an experienced Manager, Community Services to lead our community‑based services and teams.

About the Role

Reporting to the CEO, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across SMHOW’s community programs. You will ensure services are high‑quality, trauma‑informed, culturally safe and aligned with funding requirements, while fostering a supportive and values‑driven team culture. You will also build strong partnerships and drive continuous improvement to enhance outcomes for service users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, delivery, evaluation and improvement of community services
  • Provide effective leadership, supervision and development of staff
  • Ensure quality, compliance, risk management and funding accountability
  • Manage program budgets and resources in collaboration with the CEO
  • Build strong sector partnerships and represent SMHOW in community forums

About You

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, community development, human services or similar
  • Experience managing community or social service programs
  • Strong people‑leadership and supervision skills
  • Commitment to trauma‑informed, culturally safe, strengths‑based practice
  • Understanding of homelessness, mental health and structural disadvantage
  • Experience with reporting, quality frameworks and funding requirements
  • Evidence of leadership training and ongoing professional development

Desirable

  • Experience in homelessness, mental health, community meals or place‑based services
  • Familiarity with SCHADS Award and workforce planning
  • Experience in values‑driven or faith‑based organisations
