Searson Buck Group are proud to partner with COTA Tasmania (COTA Tas), in identifying the next CEO to lead the organisation through their next phase of growth and development of advocating for the interests of older Tasmanians.

COTA Tas is an Incorporated organisation created to serve the over 50's in Tasmania to achieve objectives set out in its constitution and strategic plan. The core principle being that ageing is a natural part of life and older people should be valued and respected within our society. Positive ageing is the key value underpinning the work of COTA Tas.

The Role

The CEO will lead a state-wide organisation with a multifaceted network structure, which is operating in a rapidly changing and complex environment. The CEO will have highly developed skills in working in a diverse environment where reconciling competing interests and negotiating to achieve an agreement and coordinated actions can be difficult and ensuring, a commitment to COTA Tas values of Respect, Diversity, Collaboration, and Integrity.

The CEO will be required to maintain a high level of interaction with the other CEOs of the COTA Federation. Engaging with and managing COTA's stakeholders, the CEO will be the organisation's primary public spokesperson, responsible for clearly articulating COTA's vision, reporting to funders and the community, and for accountability to the Board. The CEO will also be required to develop and maintain key relationships with the National Policy Manager, Government and political agents, donors and sponsors, media outlets and individual and organisational members of COTA Tas.

More specifically the CEO will:

  • Advocate for the interests of older Tasmanians and ensure COTA Tas is increasingly recognised as the leading consumer peak body by other peak bodies across Tasmania, including business and non-welfare sector organisations
  • Consult regularly with Tasmanians aged over 50 and provide support to facilitate their say in what is important to them as they age
  • Develop and maintain strong and appropriate strategic alliances and networks across government, industry, health, community, and aged sector organisations
  • Provide strong and effective leadership of the organisation and the sector, raising its profile with the government, industry, bureaucracy, media, and the general public
  • Represent COTA Tas in state and National forums and through the media
  • Effectively and efficiently manage the organisation's financial resources including fulfilling all contractual obligations and seek to ensure its ongoing financial viability through revenue raising activities
  • Ensure good governance, risk management, asset control, insurance and compliance with all relevant legislative, regulatory, and contractual requirements applying to the organisation
  • Ensure that the policies and directions of the Board are promptly and effectively implemented
  • Implement strategies and programs identified in the Strategic and Operations Plans
  • Actively foster the development of strong and positive working relationships and partnerships with and between member organisations, other peak Not-For-Profits

Your skills, profile and experiences ideally will include:

  • A deep understanding and knowledge of ageing issues and responses to them and of ageing as a major public policy issue in the 21st century
  • High level advocacy and communication skills
  • Demonstrated personal and professional credibility as a leader and advocate with all levels of government, politicians, bureaucracy, academics, seniors' organisations, media and other stakeholders
  • Experience in leading, managing and developing staff and resources in a Not-For-Profit Organisation
  • Demonstrated skills in generating opportunities for fund-raising
