The Business Council of Australia (BCA) brings together the expertise of Australia’s leading chief executives and representatives from their companies to shape public policy, supporting economic growth and social progress for the benefit of all Australians. BCA’s advice and participation is sought for significant national economic discussions and forums, speaking in a united voice backed by real-world examples and case studies that demonstrate the impact of proposed changes on the business and broader community. Members represent a range of sectors including manufacturing, infrastructure, information technology, mining, retail, financial services and banking, energy, professional services, transport, and telecommunications. BCA actively collaborates with other community and business groups and political leaders at all levels of government to achieve their vision and purpose.
With the impending departure of the long-serving incumbent, BCA are seeking a highly motivated finance and operations professional to join the leadership team and build on the legacy. The BCA is in good shape financially and has good opportunities for future growth as the economy rebounds from the Covid pandemic.
The Director, Finance and Operations reports to the Executive Director Policy and Strategy/Company Secretary and works closely with the Secretariat to develop and manage the financial budget to enable the Business Council to maintain its work program and resources to deliver its communications, campaigning, community and membership engagement objectives, in line with the priorities and expectations of the Business Council board and members. Responsibilities will include preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, payroll, cashflows, and ensuring that monthly performance reports are completed accurately and on time, as well as the preparation of annual financial reports and compliance with any statutory requirements. In addition, the Director, Finance and Operations will contribute more broadly to the operational performance, including Human Resources, and IT and Office management within a context of continuous improvement.
With a relevant tertiary qualification and membership of a professional body (ICAA/CPA or equivalent), you’ll be self-motivated, service oriented and possess a flexible working style. You’ll enjoy combining strategic financial management with the hands-on aspects of finance and operations and show a preparedness to roll-up your sleeves and contribute more broadly to the efficient and effective performance of the operations. Ideally your background will include a blend of experience and work environments, with an appreciation of the context in which large businesses work. Able to work with ambiguity, you will take a pro-active and solution focused approach to your work and will actively contribute to a healthy, positive and accountable workplace culture. Key to your success will be your ability to establish productive working relationships across the organisation and contribute to the broader team with purpose.
In return you’ll get to work with some Australia’s most prominent policy influencers and business leaders with an organisation committed to excellence, in a collaborative and collegiate work environment.
